Denver saw a new potential record for a major temperature drop after it plunged from 42 degrees to 5 degrees in 1 hour.
The Denver Coliseum has been converted into a 24/7 warming center.
"This facility will be available to anyone who needs it, including our neighbors experiencing homelessness, the migrants who have recently arrived in our city, and anyone from the general public who needs a safe place to be warm," Mayor Michael Hancock said.

On Friday morning, the wind chill is forecast to fall to 0 degrees in Dallas, 5 degrees in Houston, minus 15 in Nashville, minus 33 in Chicago and minus 24 in Kansas City.

The cold air moves east into Christmas weekend.
On Friday afternoon, New York City could see a flash freeze, with wet roads turning to ice, because the temperature is forecast to drop from about 53 degrees to 14 degrees within hours.
On Christmas Eve morning, the wind chill is forecast plunge to a bone-chilling minus 6 degrees in New York City, minus 17 degrees in Chicago and minus 26 degrees in Minneapolis.

Even the south will be below freezing with morning winds chills falling to minus 3 degrees in Nashville and minus degrees 2 in Atlanta.
At night, the wind chill is forecast to clock in at minus 10 degrees in New York, minus 33 degrees in Minneapolis, minus 24 degrees in Chicago, minus 1 degree in Nashville and 4 degrees in Atlanta.
