For $3.9M, this Apex mansion offers gated entry, pool, concrete pad for pickleball

Once a 19th century railroad town, Apex has emerged as one of the Triangle’s fastest-growing luxury real estate markets in recent years.

The latest example is this new listing at 393 Barbee Road, about 24 miles west of Raleigh and 12 miles south of the Research Triangle.

The 7,101-square-foot modern ranch-style home, built in 2022, is a unique mix of “scale and modernity” tucked behind a gated entry on 2.15 acres of land. Painted white with black trim, it features five bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms, several flexible spaces, an office, and a basement — “perfect for billiards, ping pong, and air hockey,” the listing reads. It also features a wet bar and a theater.

The interior’s main section features 14-foot ceilings, a fireplace, chef’s kitchen with “a JennAir gas cooktop.” Outside, would-be owners have access to a covered lanai, saltwater pool, outdoor kitchen and firepit.

There’s also a large concrete pad suitable for pickleball or other outdoor activities, the listing said, and a three-car garage with an epoxied coating.

Apex’s market

First settlers incorporated the town of Apex in 1873, according to the town’s site. It’s situated at the highest point along a 30-mile section of the Chatham Railroad, hence the name “Apex.”

Today, as growth grips the Triangle, its population has now swelled to over 62,000.

Demand for more housing remains at an all-time high. The town estimates that by 2030, there could be more than 120,000 people living in Apex.

In May, Apex home prices were up 10.2% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $638,000, according to the latest Redfin data.

On average, homes in Apex sell after seven days on the market compared to 35 days last year.

There were 96 homes sold in May this year, down from 124 last year.
