32nd annual National Capital BBQ Battle to bring the flavor to DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — If you are ready to explore the unique flavors from pitmasters around the country, the 32nd annual National Capital Barbecue Battle is bringing the heat to Washington, D.C. on June 22.

With an 80s vibe and several performances, some of the country’s best pitmasters will meet on Historic Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to light the grill and show off their cooking techniques.

The barbecue bash features over 100 free food samples, summer games, covered dining areas, misting tents to stay cool and free chilled water. The two-day festival also includes an “Art To Go Go” area, “Pepsi Lay’s DC Go-Go Stage,” “Pepsie Taste More Summer Stage,” “80s Block Party” and more.

Road Closures

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) encourages drivers to be aware of several road closures from June 21 to June 24 and use caution when traveling near the event.

MPD said the following streets will be closed to all traffic and will be posted as an “Emergency No Parking” zone from Friday at 6:30 p.m. to Monday at 2 a.m.:

  • 3rd Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW

  • Maryland Avenue from 3rd Street to Independence Avenue, SW

  • 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Madison Drive, NW

  • 6th Street from C Street to Constitution Avenue, NW

  • Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street, NW

  • Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street, NW

Vehicles parked in violation of the “Emergency No Parking” signs will be ticketed and towed.

During the National Capital Barbecue, drivers traveling in the area can expect delays and are encouraged to find alternative routes.
