If you use a BlendJet blender to make your morning smoothie, you may want to reconsider. According to a release by The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the company is recalling 4.8 million of its blenders due to potential fire and laceration hazards.

The subject of the recall is the brand's BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders, which are available in multiple colors and designs. To identify if your blender is included in the recall, check the serial number on your product. According to CPSC, units where the first four digits of the serial number are between 5201-5542 are subject to the recall.

It's estimated that about 4.8 million of the recalled blenders were sold in the U.S., while about 117,000 were sold in Canada. The blenders were available for purchase at Costco, Walmart, Target, and other stores nationwide from October 2020 through November 2023 for between $50 and $75, and online at BlendJet.com.

So far, BlendJet has received an estimated 329 reports of the blades breaking while in use, and an additional 17 reports of overheating or fires that resulted in property damage claims of approximately $150,000. The firm has also received about 49 reports of minor burns and one report of a laceration injury, according to CPSC.

If you own a BlendJet 2 Portable Blender, CPSC notes that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact BlendJet for a free replacement of the base unit. To receive a replacement, consumers will need to remove and cut the rubber seal from the base of their blender into three or more pieces and upload or email a photo showing the serial number on the bottom of the unit and its rubber seal in pieces to BlendJet. Emails can be sent to: safety@blendjet.com.

To identify if you have a recalled blender, enter the serial number of your unit into the "Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?" tool located at  www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall, or call the BlendJet toll-free number at 844-334-0562.
