The aglaonema, also known as Chinese evergreen, is a genus in the Araceae family of colorful tropical plants with glossy leaves. They're a popular choice among houseplant aficionados for their easy care and vividly-colored leaves. The range of color combinations is vast and some lovers of this plant like to collect unusual aglaonema varieties. These plants are a good choice for a smaller living space with limited room for plants because the bright colors really make a dramatic design statement.

Chinese evergreens (which are native to many parts of Asia including Thailand) thrive in indirect light and don't have any special care needs, beyond watering as needed and occasional repotting when they outgrow their containers. They can be moved outside for the summer once temperatures go above 55F. Being tropicals, they enjoy humidity and make good bathroom plants. Pet owners should be aware that these plants can be toxic to dogs and cats.
