It’s no secret that interior designers love Dollar Tree as a go-to source for affordable home decor year-round. But now that summer is here, I asked a handful of pros about the outdoor items they’re picking up from the beloved discount store this season.

“Whenever I am shopping [at Dollar Tree] in the summertime, I always keep an eye out for staple decor items that are long-lasting, yet also budget-friendly,” says Bri Macdonald, a Gen Z interior designer and social media influencer. “Some of my favorite picks are items that elevate your outdoor space, whether you’re just relaxing outside or wanting to have the best entertaining space.”

Below, check out five outdoor decor finds that interior designers are buying off the shelves of Dollar Tree right now, from party essentials to lighting.

Platters and Pitchers

Pamela McCormick, founder of Refined Ambiance, swears by Dollar Tree’s colorful platters and pitchers for summer hosting. “They add a fun, vibrant touch to any gathering,” she explains. “Use them to serve refreshing drinks and delicious snacks; they’ll make your outdoor dining area both stylish and functional.”

Macdonald also recommends stocking up on Dollar Tree’s entertaining pieces. “Think: fun summer dishware, cups, or even platters that will make entertaining in your outdoor space cohesive while you’re not breaking the bank,” she says. “Avoid anything that has writing or looks cheesy, and stick to solid colors or fun patterns!”

Candles and Lanterns

Dollar Tree also has a great selection of candles and lanterns, if you’re looking to give your balcony, patio, or front porch a literal glow-up. “Arrange lanterns along pathways or on tables to create a warm, inviting glow, and opt for citronella candles to keep mosquitoes away while you’re enjoying summer evenings,” suggests McCormick.

Mason Jars

These versatile jars can serve as simple vases, durable drinkware, and so much more. “They make adorable coastal-themed hanging lanterns or charming tealight holders,” says Meredith Schneider, the blogger behind Arts & Classy. “With a dash of creativity and determination, even the most budget-friendly Dollar Tree items can become unique and functional statement pieces for your outdoor space this summer.”

Outdoor Lighting

Beyond candles and lanterns, don’t overlook Dollar Tree’s outdoor lighting options. “They have a great, affordable selection of outdoor lights to create magical nighttime ambiance,” notes Macdonald. She suggests looking for “string lights, or solar-powered LED garden lights that you can either put in your outdoor space, string from trees, or you can string them from the edge of your balcony.”

Plants and Planters

Check out Dollar Tree’s plants and planters section, too. “You’d be surprised at some of the great finds I’ve scored at Dollar Tree,” says Macdonald. “When people ask where everything is from, they say, ‘You got it WHERE!?’ That’s when you know you’ve scored a treasure!”
