7 Creative Ways To Use Peel-And-Stick Wallpaper, According To Designers

Low-commitment, statement-making, and fairly affordable, the only thing you have to worry about is where you want to put it—because contrary to what its name might imply, it can pretty much go anywhere. This is how designers and interior experts are incorporating it, which you may not have thought of.

Tablescapes

For Katie Kime, founder of her namesake lifestyle brand in Austin, Texas, peel-and-stick wallpaper is a versatile staple. Her latest use for leftover scraps from past projects? “Cut up your material into a vibrant table runner or individual placemats to spruce up your next party tablescape,” she says. Bonus: No late-night spot treating your tablecloth after guests leave—just pull the paper up and you’re done.

Wrap

No, not wrapping paper—wrap. “We love adding wallpapers to the fronts of drawers, cabinet doors, or on the back of bookshelves for a quick style boost,” says Devin Shaffer, lead interior designer at Decorilla Online Interior Design.

Tip

Shaffer only advises doing this in areas that don’t get a lot of daily use, and those with kids should be extra discerning.

Storage

Did you invest in clear storage bins, only to realize that you prefer your stuff totally out of sight? TikTokker Emily Shaw (@emilyrayna) recommends you “camouflage clear storage solutions with peel-and-stick to make your space feel tidier.” Keep things on the simple side with a textured grasscloth, or make a bold statement with different patterns in a cohesive palette but varying scales.

Liners

They say the beauty is in the details, and anyone who disagrees has never lined their drawers with peel-and-stick wallpaper. “When you pull your drawers out, you’ll be met with a unique decorative accent and totally custom look,” explains Hannah Reach, marketing communications coordinator at WallPops. This would be a particularly fun project for a guest room, making loved ones’ stays feel more like that of a five-star hotel.

Furniture

Paint and stain aren’t the only ways to revamp your hard furniture. “A basic console table, dresser, or even wardrobe storage piece can go from ‘womp, womp’ to ‘wow!’ by covering it in peel-and-stick wallpaper with a fabulous pattern,” explains Victoria Meadows, principal and lead designer at her namesake interior design firm in Palm Beach, Florida.

Depending on the quality of the peel-and-stick and how much use the piece gets, you may want to consider covering it with plastic or glass

Art

Statement-making art doesn't have to be spendy. To upcycle samples and scraps, Shaw recommends simply popping them into frames for your gallery wall. For more large-scale needs, particularly if your wall texture isn’t conducive to paper but you still want to cover it, you can grab a roll and apply it to a canvas or piece of MDF.

Ceilings

Don’t forget to look up! “Often the forgotten fifth wall, the ceiling deserves a little love too,” Meadows emphasizes. “Peel-and-stick wallpaper applied to the ceiling will take your room to the next level, adding great drama and contrast with low commitment.”
