9 things to do in the Canandaigua area this week

The week begins with a way of finding some good books at good prices, continues with a benefit cruise on Canandaigua Lake and ends with an event showcasing the music of Bob Dylan.

Don’t think twice, it’s all right to start thinking about what’s happening this week.

1. Spring book sale continues in Canandaigua

Wood Library’s spring book sale continues during normal operating hours through Sunday, June 9, at the library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. The book sale is open to the public. There is no entry fee. For details, visit woodlibrary.org or call 585-394-1381.

2. See lots and lots of peonies in Geneva

The Festival of the Peony kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 6, and continues through Sunday, June 9, at Styer’s Peonies, 3212 Sutton Road in Geneva. Visitors can see more than 45,000 peony plants (over 200 varieties). Tickets are $10 for people ages 16 and up and $5 for children ages 5 to 15. Pay at the gate.

3. Anchors aweigh for Wood Library

All aboard the Canandaigua Lady for a cruise to raise money for Wood Library. The watercraft on Canandaigua Lake is set to depart the north shore at 4 p.m. Friday, June 7. The fundraiser is sponsored by Canandaigua Lady as part of its “Cruise for a Cause” series. 4. Enjoy Clinton’s Folly at the library

Music Among the Stacks, the second annual music series, continues from 6 to 7 p.m. June 7 at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. 5. Find some deals and steals at rummage sale in Canandaigua

The First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua's annual rummage sale is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the church, 100 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A bag sale is planned from 1 to 2 p.m. Hot dogs and freeze pops will be sold on the front lawn. All proceeds will go to community outreach activities.

6. Learn how to compost inside in Victor

The program, "Vermiculture: Indoor Composting Made Easy," will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 8 at Victor Farmington Library, 15 W. Main St., Victor. Participants will learn this year-round technique to create nutritious soil for indoor plants or outdoor gardens. It’s odor free when done correctly. 7. Pedal away for Tour de Cure at FLCC

American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure kicks off at 7 a.m. June 8. Rides will start and finish at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Hopewell. The Tour de Cure is a bicycle ride to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Law enforcement will be on site and on bike routes to ensure a safe event for cyclists and their supporters.

8. Paws Up for pets in Hopewell

Paws Up will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 2976 County Road 48, Hopewell. The second annual adoption festival and fundraiser includes a meet-and-greet with adoptable pets, Rusty Pig barbecue, bake sale, live music, face painting, basket raffle and vendors.

9. Hear the music of Bob Dylan in Naples

The Bristol Valley Theater, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary season, will host “The Music of Bob Dylan” at 1 p.m. June 9 at the theater, 151 S. Main St., Naples. This event features area musicians Travis Prinzi, Lauren Faggiano, Oliver Burdo, Justin Williams, Steve Kruppner, Abbey Gebel, Rick Constantino and Danny Mills. The doors will open at 1 p.m. for an art sale fundraiser, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar featuring Arbor Hill. The music starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person.
