Adorable Golden Retriever Highlights Why Tennessee City Should Be on Everyone's Bucket List

As dog owners, we're constantly on the lookout for exciting destinations to explore with our beloved canine companions. Many of us consider our dogs as members of our family so of course we want to take them with us. But the whole idea of traveling with our fur babies can seem intimidating, especially if we don't know how dog-friendly a city is. That's why this new campaign from Visit Knoxville... er, Barxville, makes us want to hop in the car for the drive to Tennessee.

'Welcome To Barxville' is a new dogumentary highlighting all the fun things to do in Knoxville, Tennessee for dogs and their humans. The best part? This short film is shown from the point of an adorable Golden Retriever named Hank and filmed using an adjusted color grade and strategic sound effects so that pets can enjoy the film as much as their owners. So grab your dog and check this out.

You may have caught the voice talents of football legend Peyton Manning; singer-songwriters Drew and Ellie Holcomb; head coach of the Lady Vols basketball team Kellie Jolly Harper; and former Director of Women's Athletics at the University of Tennessee Joan Cronan — all of whom hold close ties to Knoxville. Knoxville is known as one of the most pet-friendly cities in the US, and Hank is making us want to pay a visit with our own puppers.

Kim Bumpas, president of Visit Knoxville, said in a press release, "Many know and love Knoxville for its Southern hospitality, and our four-legged friends are no exception. From dog-friendly hotels, patios, and shops to parks, trails, and Knoxville's Urban Wilderness, this town has something to help every furry member of the family feel at home."

Reasons Why Knoxville is So Dog-Friendly

Dog friendly places to stay. Hotels like the Cumberland House, featured in the film, that welcome pets and often offer special amenities including dog beds and treats. There are lots of other hotels in Knoxville that have pet-friendly amenities. I personally am not a big fan of boarding my pets so I always look for hotels where my fur babies are welcome.

Knoxville has a lot of dog-friendly shops, restaurants, and breweries, as well as attractions including the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Visit Knoxville Visitors Center. There are also tons of dog-friendly patios in Knoxville where us owners can enjoy things like pizza, sushi and burgers and some even have dog treats. There are also many breweries and taprooms where your pup is welcome.

Knoxville also has 60 miles of dog-friendly multi-use trails and seven different dog parks and some even have separate sections for small and large dogs, ramps and exercise stations, dog and human water fountains and other dog-friendly amenities to wear your pup out.

I only live a few hours from Knoxville and it's one of my favorite cities. I may have to bring my dog there sometime soon, but as a new kitten owner I'm always sort of bummed that campaigns like this don't feature cat-friendly amenities. If any cities have hotel stays with complimentary catnip or faux fur mice, hit me up.
