Aldi is known for offering affordable groceries to its loyal customers, and soon more shoppers will be able to reap those benefits. The grocery chain is gearing up to open 800 new grocery stores nationwide by 2028 to help offer more Americans affordable groceries as inflation is putting food prices at an all-time high.

According to Aldi, the company will invest more than $9 billion in the next few years to add roughly 330 more stores throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Aldo will also open additional stores in the West and will make its debut in Las Vegas.

“Our growth is fueled by our customers, and they are asking for more Aldi stores in their neighborhoods nationwide,” said Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi, in a recent press release. “With up to 40% savings on groceries, new customers are inspired to try us out, and existing customers keep coming back. While price is important, we earn their loyalty by stocking our shelves with only the best products and offering a quicker, easier, and more enjoyable shopping experience. With this commitment to add 800 stores in the next five years, we’ll be where our shoppers need us while positively impacting the communities we serve.”

Aldi will also be converting many Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations in the Southeast with its expansion. Thanks to its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys, Aldi plans to convert roughly 50 stores later this year in hopes of reopening them in 2025.

“With the acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets, Aldi will serve even more communities in the Southeast, bringing us closer to our customers in a region where we’ve already experienced significant demand for affordable, quality groceries,” Hart says. “As we look ahead to this next chapter in our company history, both the Aldi and SEG teams will play a critical role in driving the business forward for our future collective success.”

The soon-to-open locations are said to continue offering the same popular seasonal Aldi Finds and affordable low prices this grocer is known for. However, Aldi also plans to use this expansion to help make a bigger impact on the community and environment by using more sustainable and energy-efficient features, including LED lighting and rooftop solar systems.
