"Alexa & Katie" Official Trailer Has Two Girls Proving the Power of Friendship

Alexa & Katie is the newest BFF sitcom about to hit Netflix, and now we have its official trailer to get us excited for the premiere on March 23.

The forthcoming heartwarming comedy follows Alexa (Paris Berelc) and Katie, two besties about to start their freshman year of high school. And while Alexa might be undergoing cancer treatment, it doesn't change the person she is or her friendship with Katie (Isabel May). There are plenty of antics and experiences to be had by the duo — made obvious by the sneak peek of the series — as they navigate a part of life when it's so important to have people love you for who you are.

Also starring in the series is Tiffani Thiessen as Alexa's protective mom, who many will remember from the iconic '90s show Saved by the Bell. She told Teen Vogue that jumping into another warm-hearted comedy was comfortable, "like putting on an old pair of shoes."

The trailer gives us our first peek at Alexa and Katie's lives, and so far, so funny. Though the show definitely touches on some difficult yet important topics, such as bullying and illness, it's clear the moral is that friendship can overcome anything. In the teaser, we see Alexa and Katie getting ready for their first day of school and Alexa sharing her concern that she'll be known as "the sick girl." That's when Katie says she's going to completely stand by Alexa's side and takes a razor to her head to support her friend. Before we know it, they are marching into school with coordinating wigs.

We proceed to watch them get into all sorts of shenanigans, including attempting to cook, practice for basketball tryouts, and of course, a fair amount of dancing on couches. "They’re liking boys, going to dances, and they’re wanting to do teenager things," Paris previously told Teen Vogue. "Alexa does have cancer, but that doesn’t affect how they run their lives. It doesn’t change their lives or who they are as a person." Netflix has also been working with the American Cancer Society for the show's launch to improve awareness and support for childhood cancers.

Tiffani also opened up about working with the rest of the cast and what she hopes the audience will take away from the show. She added that she thinks the show is important because having role models like the characters Alexa and Katie is important for everyone, and that at the core of it all, the show is really about kindness.

"If people can take away the simple reminder that kindness goes a long way, I think we have done our job," she said. As for her favorite scene to film? Tiffani noted that she loves getting to sing and dance on camera but that working with the other actors has been a dream in general. "It makes it easy to come to work on a daily basis."
