“I’m listening, but I’m also gagging,” Laverne Cox told Ali Wong during their interview on the 2024 SAG Awards red carpet on February 24.

You know you’re wearing a standout ’fit when Cox, a red carpet veteran, can’t finish an interview without interrupting herself to gush over your look. But Wong’s Iris van Herpen couture gown, which features laser-cut diamond-shaped pieces of fabric shooting off the shoulders like sartorial fireworks, is just too big and too bold to ignore.

Cox asked Wong, who is nominated for her work in Beef, the tough questions first: “Can you sit down in this dress? Have you practiced that?”

Wong revealed that she was not seated in the car on the way to the venue and instead stood up in the back of a sprinter van. “The person doing my hair said you haven’t made it until you’ve gone to an awards show in a sprinter van,” Wong said, laughing.

The 41-year-old, who was styled for the evening by Tara Swennen, kept her glam simple, wearing her hair in a center-parted ponytail. A pair of clear-framed glasses, Brandon Blackwood platforms, Bucherer jewelry, and minimal makeup finished the look.

Ali Wong has already cleaned up during this 2024 awards season, taking home a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her portrayal of Amy Lau on Beef. Her beau, Bill Hader, who is also nominated for a SAG Award for his work on Barry, has so far accompanied her on her winning streak. TBD on whether he’ll lean in for a congratulatory kiss this evening. There might be too much…dress in the way. But that’s fashion, baby!
