An American Girl Doll Movie Is Happening. Here’s Everything We Know

It's happening, folks. We're getting an American Girl doll movie, and my inner second-grader is screaming. (Samantha hive, rise up!)

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mattel's next big doll-related film will be based on the iconic line of American Girl dolls, each of whom represent a different era of United States history. The original Eras Tour, if you will. Lindsey Anderson Beer has been tapped to write and produce.

“Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls,” said Anderson Beer. “I had Kirsten, and she had Molly. They didn't feel like dolls to play with, rather real people whose worlds we got to imagine ourselves in. They are historically accurate toys and accessories that feature elaborate and immersive backstories uniquely suited to bring to screen.”

Desperate for more details? Here is everything we know so far.

What will the film be about?

Is this going to be a Barbie World situation, where the dolls all live in one magical storybook universe that collides with our own? Are we time-traveling? Are we inviting Felicity? Unfortunately, we don't have a clear sense of what the plot will be or how the American Girls will be featured. Anderson Beer has only said, “I am so excited to tell a story that tackles the issues of girlhood in a real and compelling way, and proud to partner with Mattel Films, Paramount Pictures, and Temple Hill to create the American Girl movie I have wanted to see since childhood.”

Who is in the cast?

No casting announcements have been made yet, unfortunately, but fingers crossed we'll hear more soon.

When will the movie premiere?

It's unclear. Remember that Barbie was in the works for years before it finally hit theaters, but hopefully, we won't have to wait that long this time.

This post will be updated.
