Area news in brief for June 17

WINONA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL – The Winona Strawberry Festival will run 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Winona Area Historical Society, at Winona Road and Cameron Street. If you’re using GPS, the address is 32111 Winona Road in Hanoverton. Food service will begin at 11:30 a.m., featuring barbecued chicken halves, sides, hot sandwiches, homemade desserts and ice cream with strawberry topping. Guests can visit Winona Fire Department, which will be on the grounds. An auction of items donated by local businesses and community members will be at 2 p.m., with Kiko Auctions conducting the sale. Proceeds benefit the historical society and its preservation programs. Free parking.

EDCHOICE PROGRAM – Rodman Public Library in Alliance will play host to a discussion of Ohio’s Educational Choice Expansion Scholarship Program at 5 p.m. June 26. Ryan Hill, director of enrollment at Stark County Catholic Schools, will lead an information night in the auditorium. Hill will explain how EdChoice scholarships can pay for tuition at participating private schools for K-12 students.

KNOX TRUSTEES – Knox Township trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 2895 Knox School Road. Trustees will convene at 6:45 p.m. to review bills.

HEALTH SEMINAR – Salem-area residents are invited to a free health seminar July 8 at Salem Regional Medical Center. “Your Health Matters” will include SRMC physician Dr. Joseph Miladore and board-certified nurse practitioner Kyle R. Marshall, who will discuss health topics of special interest to both women and men. The event will be at SRMC Primary Care-Canfield, 5002 Millennial Lane, at Route 224 and Palmyra Road in Canfield. Participants will kick off the event at 6 p.m. July 8 with a tour of the medical imaging department. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Miladore will present “Healthy Living for Women,” which will focus on health and wellness through screenings, exercise and nutrition. Marshall will discuss “Healthy Living for Men,” including preventative screenings, heart disease, erectile dysfunction and mental health. BELOIT MEETING – Beloit Village Council’s Building and Grounds Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Village Hall. A Safety Committee meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.
