Australian Officials Congratulated Meghan and Harry on Their Pregnancy News
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry landed in Australia for their first royal tour, and promptly announced they were expecting their first child together. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” Kensington Palace tweeted Monday.
Australia’s prime minister, Scott Morrison, tweeted Monday to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “What fantastic news! Australia is thrilled for you both,” he wrote. “Looking forward to sharing in the joy during your stay down under.”

But not everyone was on board with Meghan and Harry’s big trip Down Under. Australia’s Labor party, which is adamantly anti-monarchy and pushes for Australia to become a republic, heckled Morrison as he issued a statement welcoming the royals to their country.

Along with Australia, Meghan and Harry are set to visit New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga on their royal tour. New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, also had a baby this year, and took six weeks of maternity leave while holding office. She was the second-ever world leader to give birth while holding office.
