Azorean Maritime Heritage Society to host Sails of Portugal June 29

NEW BEDFORD — The Azorean Maritime Heritage Society (AMHS) will be hosting its flagship annual event - the “Sails of Portugal” food and wine tasting - on Saturday, June 29.

Featuring wine tastings and Portuguese dishes from local distributors and restaurants as well as plenty of music, the event will start at 6 p.m. at the United Fishermen Club, 639 Orchard St, New Bedford.

Funds raised from this event will support the maintenance of an on-water programming for AMHS’ Azorean whaleboats, cultural activities, and the organization’s scholarship fund.

Founded in 1997, AMHS promotes Azorean culture and shared whaling heritage by raising awareness and pride within New England’s Azorean-American community.

The organization currently maintains three of only 63 Azorean whaleboats remaining in the world.

Tickets cost $50 per adult and include wine, beer, and food tastings.

The event will also feature a silent auction of great local experiences and one-of-a-kind art pieces.
