Costco's rotisserie chicken has been praised by customers for years for its low price, but there's one food celebrity who is by no means a fan: Chef David Chang. The chef thoroughly dragged the rotisserie chicken during a Costco-centric episode of his podcast that aired on January 9. And Costco lovers around around the country flocked to defend this beloved bestseller (pun totally intended).

We shared the news on our TikTok this week and people were just as appalled as we were.

"I think the Costco chicken is the worst rotisserie chicken. They're not good. They're not seasoned...There's something about all the nitrates and all the crap they pump into the chicken that makes the chicken breast even more disgusting the next day when it's cold," Chang said on his podcast, Business Insider reports.

Chang, who is the founder of the acclaimed Momofuko restaurant group and fast-casual chain Fuku, went on to call the $4.99 chicken "inedible" and "disgusting."

On our TikTok, users weren't putting up with Chang's accusations. User @trinityy1 wrote "His chili crunch is more expensive than the chicken 😂 let poor people eat."

"So rude. Everyone can't afford fancy food 🤷♀️," said User @shashlove1.

Chang's comments even got attention from International Costco lovers. According to User @milsyp, "Momofuku just closed here in Toronto but the Costcos are thriving just sayin 💁🏻♀️." The Toronto Star backed up this claim, reporting that Momofuku closed up shop in December of 2022.

Even our own director of video, Julia Smith, chimed in to share her opinion on the matter: "will live and die for Costco." Us too.

People also took to other social media platforms to defend Costco's rotisserie chicken. A tweet shared by the New York Post about Chang's disdain for the rotisserie chicken is filled with comments defending it.

"Please tell us more about your $15 appetizer that’s just grilled shisto [sic] peppers. Please don’t hate on Costco chicken. Feeds many families and it’s still good the day after," user @Kenneth38063999 tweeted.

"The Costco Rotisserie is among the better versions out there - extremely tasty and cooked healthily!" @AlexRichRevue added.

Chang's critique comes months after Costco's rotisserie chicken received some other bad press. Last year, the company was sued by two shareholders who claimed that one of the farms Costco uses for its rotisserie chickens had broken animal-welfare laws.
