CHESTERFIELD — Happy Pollinator Week! How will you celebrate? "Bee" part of the fun at Rockwood Park Beekeepers Association's Honey Bee Festival which will take place at Chesterfield County Fairgrounds for the first time. Members will host the entertaining, educational event for the 13th time. Previously, the festival was held at Rockwood Park Nature Center in Richmond.

The public is invited to buzz around this Saturday, June 22 at the Honey Bee Festival from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be something for all ages. Entertainment will include bee and pollinator education, honey tasting, activities for children including a drone petting zoo, local artisans, food trucks, Bumblebee Jamboree, live music and more.

Chesterfield: Bumblebee Jamboree

For over a decade, Bumblebee Jamboree has been metro Richmond’s premier Pollinator Week event. Chesterfield County Master Gardeners and Virginia Cooperative Extension host the event. For 2024, it will be held as part of the Chesterfield Honey Bee Festival.

Children will have the opportunity to learn about and understand the importance of bees, butterflies, birds, beetles and bats as they enjoy pollinator-related crafts and games, as well as other engaging activities. Adults can learn ways to encourage pollinators in their own backyards. For more information, visit the Bumblebee Jamboree Facebook page @bumbleejamboree.

RPBA are grateful for the support from the community and the volunteers who help make the festival a wonderful experience. Volunteer opportunities are also available to non-beekeepers and non-club members. Beekeeping experience/knowledge is not required, and children are welcome to volunteer as well. If you are interested in being a volunteer, visit rockwoodbeekeepers.com.

Drones, aka male honey bees, are needed for a crowd favorite: drone petting. Children enjoy holding honey bees without fear of getting stung. RPBA needs additional drones. Beekeepers are asked to consider combing through their hives for drones to share at the festival. Visit rockwoodbeekeepers.com to let the zookeepers know you have drones to pet and transportation instructions.
