Community Calendar: Airport open house, Sales Around the Lakes

Jun. 7—Superior: The Barker's Island Farmers' Market runs from 8:45 a.m. to noon near the SS Meteor.

Superior: Enjoy pancakes, free airplane rides, museum tours, a classic car gathering and music during the fourth annual Bong Airport Open House. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast in the EAA Chapter 272 hanger from 8 a.m. to noon. Suggested donation for breakfast is $9. Free Young Eagle rides will be available for children between the ages of 8 and 17 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Introductory rides for adults interested in the possibility of pursuing flight instruction will also be available. The Commemorative Air Force (Lake Superior Squadron) will provide museum tours, youth education, lunch and a dance with the Blue Water Big Band. Doors open at 9 a.m.

Cornucopia: The Cornucopia Business Association hosts townwide garage sales, arts and craft vendors, music and food all day in the village during the Cornucopia Lupine Festival.

Superior: Northland Grandmothers for Peace will hold its annual gathering 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Superior Public Library. There will be a potluck, so bring a dish to share. You can bring your reusable dishes and flatware or the chapter will provide paper plates, cups and plastic utensils in addition to beverages. The Jan Provost Memorial Peace Awards to three local high school seniors will be presented. Dues have been reinstated.

Superior: The Superior Downtown Farmers' Market runs from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1215 Banks Ave., east of the World of Wheels Skate Center.

Superior: The final SAREA meeting until September is at noon at the VIP, 1201 Tower Ave. The program will be presented by Dale Johnson, executive director of Senior Connections, and their caregiver coordinator, Ciara Johnson. All retired school district employees are invited to attend.

Summit: The annual Sales Around the Lakes, hosted by the Tri Lakes Community Center, runs 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Drive, bike or walk around the Amnicon, Dowling and Lyman lakes area to check out garage and lawn sales.
