Sears and Kmart recently survived total bankruptcy, but the brands' major financial woes haven't ended just yet. More than two dozen stores will shut their doors this fall in the latest round of closures, CNN reports.

The chains' money troubles have dragged on throughout the past decade as the traditional brick-and-mortar stores have unsuccessfully adapted to increasing online competition. Sears and Kmart — both brands more than a century old — have "faced a number of challenges returning our stores to sustainable levels of productivity," their parent company Transform Co. stated on Wednesday.

"Our goal remains to return the company to profitability and preserve as many jobs as possible in the communities we serve," it added in a statement.

Here's what the latest news means for Sears and Kmart customers:

Yes, liquidation sales will begin in mid-August, CNN reports. Previously announced closings led to slashed prices on tools and appliances. Visit closing stores before the end of October to find big discounts and snatch up the remaining goods for cheap.
