Costco Is Selling This High-Quality Single Malt Whiskey for $42
Certain Costco locations have been spotted selling a high-quality, double-barrel whisky for the staggeringly low price of $42, and whisky connoisseurs can’t believe their eyes.
On Sunday, a Huntington Beach Costco shopper posted a photo to the r/Costco_alcohol subReddit showing several pallets of Balvenie DoubleWood 12 single malt whisky on sale for $41.99 per bottle. Depending on where you live, a bottle of Balvenie retails for anywhere between $57.99 and $102.99, making Costco’s offer quite astonishing.
Balvenie is a single barrel, 15-year sherry casked Scotch whisky. It’s wood-finished, meaning the spirit is moved from one cask to another, enriching its distinguished flavor each time. It’s first aged in whisky oak, which imbues the liquor with a smooth, vanilla-reminiscent foundation. It’s then moved to a sherry oak cask, where it takes on honeyed, fruity notes. Finally, the Scotch is married in oak vessels.
Tasting Table voted it one of their best single malt Scotches to try in 2023.
Several Southern California-based Reddit users chimed in, confirming that Balvenie was also available at their local. “Costco near me out in Thousand Oaks had the same deal on the Balvenie,” one user said of the suburb not far from Huntington Beach.
Another commented that “most Costcos in SoCal received a pallet” as a “special Father’s Day promo.” It’s unclear at this point if the Balvenie is available at Costco locations outside of Southern California.
However, this isn’t the first time that Reddit users have spotted Balvenie being sold at Costco's rock-bottom prices.
Five years ago, a user posted to the r/whiskey subReddit with a flurry of whisky deals spotted at their local Costco. One of those deals happened to be the very same Balvenie DoubleWood 12 single malt, but it was priced notably higher than it is in 2024.
Back in 2019, the Balvenie DoubleWood 12 retailed for $49.99 at Costco—$8 higher than Costco’s current price.
Of course, Costco has been known for offering impressive deals on spirits. Just last week, Blanton's single-barrel bourbon was spotted on sale for $46.99. Typically, Blanton's retails for around $150.
As everything seems to be growing increasingly expensive, Costco seems committed to offering its members high-quality spirits at ludicrously low prices.
