When Emma Corrin was cast in the highly-anticipated role of Lady Diana Spencer in The Crown Season 4, she was a newcomer.

"I have been glued to the show and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal," Corrin said in a statement when the news was first announced. "Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity and I will strive to do her justice!"

The star also celebrated the news on Instagram, saying she's "over joyed, over the moon and incredibly honoured ❤️" to join the cast.

Here's everything you need to know about The Crown's Princess Diana, Emma Corrin.

She's breaking into Hollywood.

The Crown's newest addition is a fresh face amongst a cast of big stars like Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth II), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret), and Gillian Anderson (Margaret Thatcher). Corrin has since made her film debut in Misbehaviour, and appeared in Epix's Batman-inspired series, Pennyworth. But it's her role as Princess Diana that is introducing her to a worldwide audience.

Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown, praised Corrin in her new role, telling The Hollywood Reporter:

"Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation."

She's ready for the spotlight ... almost.

During an interview with Los Angeles Times, Corrin revealed that, when she got cast as Princess Diana, director Benjamin Caron gave her some sound advice. "He took me aside and very helpfully said, 'You and Diana are going through a very similar thing. You’re going to suddenly be in the public eye, in a role that everyone has had their eyes on,'" Corrin explained to the publication. "'You will be in the newspaper and you’ll be papped. Anything you feel about it, be it fear or excitement or nervousness, be aware of it because that’s exactly how she would have been feeling.'" She revealed, "God ... he was so right."

Corrin has come to know and love Princess Diana.

During her interview with Los Angeles Times, Corrin explained, "I have come to know Diana better than anyone else, so my sympathy will always lie with her ... But I also have a huge appreciation of Charles, and what they both had to endure in that marriage. I don’t think you can pick a side."
