Did you know... what was going on in this photo and where it was taken? This is a photo of the Fourth of July parade taken in 1948. Yates Variety Store opened that year in the Elks building at 1211 2nd St. Yates 5&10 was open 1947-1952. From 1952 to 1975, the ground floor of the Elks was home to Ben Franklins. Perry had the Woolworth and Ben Franklin stores, known to me as a boy as the Big or Little Dime store. Bits of Holcomb Pharmacy can be seen behind the people riding on the float.
