Dog’s Reaction to Mom Signing Adoption Papers Is Melting Hearts

Have you ever adopted or fostered an animal? Many people do it, and it's such a joy to see animals in need find homes filled with love to stay in until they can find their forever homes. That's what makes this video that CBS News shared on Thursday, January 25th so special!

The video is from Walton County Animal Control in Monroe, GA. The video introduces us to Luna, a dog who is being adopted and seems to sense that she's going home. She's standing on a chair next to her new mom who is signing all of the paperwork to make it official. Luna's reaction is so pure, and you can feel the love!

Look at Luna's tail go! Talk about a happy ending (pun intended)! Luna seems to know that her new mom is taking her to her forever home, and she's so excited about it! @CBS News commenters loved Luna's response to getting adopted as well. My favorite came from Carol who said what Luna must have been thinking, "We are in this together, where do I sign?!"

The Benefits of Adopting Instead of Buying a Pet

If you are considering bringing home a new pet, you should definitely consider adopting one from a local shelter. While many shelters nowadays are no-kill shelters, not all of them are. If animals aren't fostered or adopted in a certain amount of time, they are often euthanized.

So why adopt instead of buy? Well, there are a lot of dogs out there that need homes! Some have been abandoned, some rescued from neglect or abuse, and some born in a shelter if their mom somehow made her way to one. You would leave the shelter with a new pet and knowing that you saved a life.

Another good reason to adopt - it's less expensive than purchasing a pet. Shelters aren't in the business of making money selling animals. Usually, the fees associated with adoption cover spay or neutering, as well as other expenses (think food, medical expenses, etc.) Instead of paying thousands to buy your next pet, you pay just a couple to few hundred, or in some cases, less than that.

Sometimes animals end up at shelters because for whatever reason, their owners could no longer care for them. In those cases, these animals are already potty trained...one less thing you have to worry about!

Many people say that animals they've saved from a shelter make the best dogs, almost if they know that you rescued them and changed their lives. While there's nothing scientific to back that up, my friends that have adopted from shelters all swear up and down that it's true.

If adoption isn't an option for you right now, consider fostering an animal. It's in high demand, and many people enjoy helping out their communities and animals in need by doing so. And if things work out and you fall in love with your foster, adoption is usually an option! It's a win-win all the way around!
