PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE) – As the end of the school year is near, a teacher at Los Robles Elementary in Porterville is making all the difference for her students.

Miss Mariya Duran is helping her fourth-grade class learn everything they need to know so they are prepared for the fifth grade.

Taking the time to learn her students’ needs its helped them grow in their academic journeys.

“She teaches us how to do new strategies so that we could do better on whenever we’re doing tests,” said Jayce Escalera, a fourth-grade student.

Learning probability, fractions, and vocabulary can be tricky, but thanks to years of tutoring before her teaching career, she has crafted ways to help every student.

“Seeing those little lightbulbs go off as they are learning and it just like makes sense to them that’s always super rewarding,” said Miss Duran.

And having a positive attitude while doing it all has her class ready to see what each day will bring.

“She’s very caring she’s very nice and she’s very responsible,” said Emely Delgadillo, a fourth-grade student.

She tells her students it is okay to make mistakes because learning something new can be exciting.

“Teachers have a growth mindset I’m really excited to keep learning and keep providing the best instruction as possible that I can for my students to help them continue to be successful,” said Miss Duran.

Having that growth mindset keeps this teacher positive all day long.

“She’s always positive she strives for us to keep going to never give up and she’s like the best teacher in my opinion,” said Isac Ramons, a fourth-grade student.

After three years of teaching at the school, she is ready to see what the next year will bring.

“I truly think we are making a difference here and I hope it will continue throughout my entire education journey,” said Miss Duran.
