Families get sneak peek of John Ball Zoo’s Lantern Festival

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Lantern Festival at the John Ball Zoo is not completed just yet, but families were able to see a couple of the lanterns on display while the sun was up Sunday.

The festival begins on April 10 through June 16 from Wednesday to Sunday from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Guests will be able to see the zoo light up with handcrafted lantern displays made by Tianyu Arts and Culture. There will also be traditional Chinese performances during the festival like acrobatics, artistic hula hooping and more.

This is the second year of the festival and the first and only of its kind in Michigan. The one-mile light tour brought in more than 110,000 people last year, and the zoo said this year is going to be bigger and better.

While families got to see the lanterns in the daylight during the weekend, zoo staff said it will look completely different at night when the festival opens Wednesday. You can purchase tickets for the festival here.
