Full-coverage foundation doesn't exactly have the best reputation. It can feel heavy and cakey, settle into fine lines and appear masklike or flat without the right shade match or application technique. I've mostly shied away from it, preferring to go low-maintenance, sheer and glow-y with my complexion makeup — until I was introduced to YSL's All Hours Foundation. It's the answer to everything I thought I hated about a full-coverage foundation.

Every so often, an occasion like a wedding or photo-heavy event warrants going high-maintenance with my makeup. That's when I turn to this shockingly lightweight, full-coverage formula, which gives me a next-level even skin tone, blurring out redness, hyperpigmentation and even my dark undereye circles so well, I can pretty much skip concealer. Because it's so intensely pigmented, about half a pump is all I need to cover my whole face, and once it's blended out, I feel like I have absolutely no makeup on.

Another thing I typically avoid in complexion products is those marketed as "matte," a descriptor that often translates to a dull, one-dimensional, fake-looking effect. But this foundation delivers on its "luminous matte" packaging promise, creating a diffused, skin-like finish that's shine-free (perfect for long wear times and humid environments) but still reflects light. It also plays well with other products, like powders, cream blushes and liquid highlighters, so you can easily customize any dewiness exactly in the spots where you want it.

My skin type is combination, so I also appreciate that this formula isn't drying, like some other matte makeup can be. It's actually spiked with skin-care ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and jasmine flower extract — and even carries an SPF 30. (Though, my dermatologist friends would want me to remind you that you still need to wear actual sunscreen underneath!)
