Is GA’s new Taco Bell/Cheez-It collab giving us the snack of the summer? I tried them both

Mexican food is comfort food, no matter what shape or form it comes in and it doesn’t seem likely that you could improve on perfection. However, the new collab between Taco Bell and Cheez-It parent company Kellanova, is out here proving you can fix something that’s not broken.

I tried the new Big Cheez-It Tostada and Crunchwrap Supreme and they were exactly what you think they would be: pretty good. I don’t want to undersell the fun new snacks because they really are clever mash-ups and they absolutely did the job they were meant to do.

How did they taste?

They were actually pretty good, all in all, and the taste was kind of the best part about the whole thing. The original tostadas and crunch wraps are each a reliable snack, and the Cheez-It only solidifies their places in the canon.

The best part was the cheesiness of the cracker paired with the savory seasoned ground beef on the tostada. On the crunch wrap it was the surprise burst of cheese in between all of the warm meat and cool lettuce.

A more sophisticated food critic might talk about the balance of flavors, quality of ingredients or the overall taste profile, but all I know is that they were pretty yummy.

How did they feel?

This is how the snacks failed me. The Cheez-It bottom layer of the tostada was unreliable and crumbled when I picked it up. Forget trying to eat it in the car - it would get everywhere.

I wound up having to eat the tostada in sections and use a fork to put the toppings back on. It was a real hassle. However, it did solve the weird problem of topping placement.

Whoever assembled mine may suffer from brumotactillophobia, which is the fear of foods touching on the plate. The meat was in one corner, the sour cream in another, the lettuce and tomato in one corner and the cheese was in the other.

The crunch wrap, on the other hand, felt fairly sturdy since the cracker part was stabilized by the surrounding components. I could eat that in the car if I needed to (and I often need to) but there is no way I could enjoy the tostada on the go.

Overall, it was fine. I probably didn’t look like a full grown adult while eating either of them, but they were a good snack on their own - together they could do for a whole dinner.
