Giada De Laurentiis' Bloody Mary Mocktail Swaps Tomato Juice for a Flavor-Packed Ingredient

Brunch just isn’t brunch without a Bloody Mary — sorry, mimosa people. This one isn’t for you. On her\ Instagram account, Giada De Laurentiis shared how she makes her Bloody Mary recipe, and she uses an unexpected tomato base instead of opting for a traditional tomato juice or Bloody Mary cocktail mix.

“We’re using some of this cherry tomato pizza sauce,” De Laurentiis said in the video she posted to her feed. “I love this stuff.”

This sauce from Viragi, which you can grab on Giadzy, is loaded with sweet cherry tomatoes that pack a more complex flavor than their larger cousins. The sauce is a simple recipe that only contains tomatoes, olive oil, salt, and basil.

“I use it on everything,” De Laurentiis continued. “I just love the jar, too.”

She then adds a dash of Calabrian chili paste for spice and a “hit of Worcestershire” sauce before shaking it all up with a lot of ice. This would also be the time to add your liquor of choice (vodka or tequila work best!) or keep it virgin like De Laurentiis did.

“The fun part about this is this,” she said, holding up mini skewers of Bloody Mary snacks. “I did mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, [and] olives.” She also added a couple of slices of artichokes and said she would have added salami if she had some.

“I think this Calabrian Bloody Mary might be my new go-to brunch mocktail,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “What do you guys think?”

“This does look delish… I would have to add just a little splish splash of vodka and some sparkling water!” one person commented on her post. Another added, “I would add a jumbo shrimp! Looks great!”

There are so many ways you can dress up a Bloody Mary, but starting with a good base is necessary. Try De Laurentiis’ pizza sauce method and your brunch gathering will go from good to great!
