Crosby's family had previously noted he died following a 'long illness.'

Three months after his passing, David Crosby's cause of death has been revealed.

During a guest appearance on Consequence podcast Kyle Meredith With…, the late musician's Crosby, Stills & Nash bandmate Graham Nash shared details of Crosby's death.

"He was rehearsing for a show to do in Los Angeles with a full band. After three days of rehearsals, he felt a little sick," Nash shared on the episode. "And he'd already had COVID, and he had COVID again."

Nash continued, "So he went home and decided that he would take a nap, and he never woke up. But he died in his bed, and that is fantastic."

At the time of Crosby's passing, his family didn't give details of what caused Crosby's death, simply noting that he died following a "long illness."

Nash also spoke candidly about Crosby living longer than he anticipated, yet still being overwhelmed by his passing.

"The truth is we expected David to pass 20 years ago," Nash shared. "The fact that he made it to 81 was astonishing. But it was a shock. But it was a shock, kind of like an earthquake. You get the initial shock and then you figure out that you’ve survived. But these aftershocks keep coming up."

He added that he is at peace knowing that he was able to mend his friendship with his bandmate after their rift. "I'm very pleased that David and I were getting closer towards the end," Nash added.

Nash also had kind words to say about the late musician's legacy. "He had a good life. What incredible music he made," he said. "He was a fantastic storyteller. I loved him dearly and in looking back, what separated us was just foolish stuff, really. The music was the most important part of our relationship."

Crosby died on January 19, 2023. His wife Jan Dance was the first to confirm his passing, noting that Crosby died surrounded by herself and their son, Django.
