My Hero Academia Battle Royale Game Is Out Next Week

Fortnite has a bunch of anime crossovers, with the battle royale game having dozens of skins, items, and emotes from a wide range of anime series. Being restricted to Fortnite’s gameplay means those skins don’t really get to shine all that much though, and putting a basic shotgun into, say, Deku’s hands kind of undercuts the character’s unique abilities.

That’s why Bandai Namco Entertainment has been working on a dedicated battle royale game for one of the most popular anime series around. My Hero Ultra Rumble, known as My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble in Japan, is a new battle royale action game from Byking, the developer of games like My Hero One’s Justice and the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen game.

In Ultra Rumble, you’ll be placed into one of eight teams of three, and will have to fight it out against other teams to become the last team standing. Like many other battle royale games, My Hero Ultra Rumble’s map will get smaller over time, forcing players to adapt and converge on one point for one final clash.

There are 18 playable characters at launch, from both the hero and the villain camps, and each of them have their own unique skill sets and quirks. Given the live service aspect of the game, it’s likely that more characters will be added in the future, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Take a look at the launch trailer below — it’s looking pretty good.

The best part is that it’s free — and it’s out next week. My Hero Ultra Rumble will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 28, 2023. It will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility on those platforms, though it seems like enhanced native versions won’t be available right away.
