Heroic Dog Runs 4 Miles To Get Help in Oregon After Human Involved in Car Crash

There's an absolutely amazing story out of Oregon that the Baker County Sheriff's Office posted about on Monday. A man that was headed to spend some time with family members at a camping site in the woods.

When one of Brandon Garrett's four dogs ran four miles to the camping site, his family grew concerned that Garrett was nowhere to be found and went to investigate.

People Magazine reports, "His family grew concerned when he didn't report to their camping site on Sunday, June 2 as planned. One of his dogs showed up on the site instead, which helped alert a family of trouble and prompted them to search for him. According to the statement, they called authorities when they found Garrett's truck but could not reach it due to the difficult terrain."

The Baker County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook, "During the investigation, it was determined that Garrett was traveling north on U.S. Forest Service Road 39 on June 2nd with his four dogs, when he failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to plummet off the embankment. One of his dogs traveled the nearly four miles to their camp, which alerted the rest of the party that something was wrong. Garrett was able to crawl approximately one hundred yards from the vehicle, where he spent the night. The rest of the party continued to search for him, and family members located his vehicle on the morning of June 3rd. The three remaining dogs were located alive at the crash scene."

It's so incredible that the dog remembered where the crash site was ands ran all that way. What an incredibly smart pup. We bet the whole family and Garrett feel so fortunate to have such an incredible fur baby!

If you are planning on taking some camping or hiking trips with your dog this summer, here are so good tips.

Tips To Make The Most Out Of Your Dog Hikes

You should always keep your dog on a leash, even if they know to come and stay, because you never know when they may decide to take off after a small animal and end up going somewhere they shouldn't or falling off a trail. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Charge your cell phone and let your friends or family know where you plan on hiking and a rough estimate on when you should return.

Make sure you practice good dog walking etiquette by bringing with waste disposal bags for your pup, and disposing of them in trash cans.

Allow your dog to sniff things while on their walks, because this is one of the ways that dogs explore the world, but make sure your dog doesn't eat anything they find on the trail.

Remember that dogs get thirsty too, so bring along with a collapsable water bowl and some water for your pup. A lot of parks, especially dog parks, have watering stations for pets but it's better to be safe than sorry.

When walking at night, make sure you and your dog both wear something reflective like a leash or harness for them and a jacket for you, so cars can see you in the dark.

If the weather is bad, consider a sweater or raincoat to keep your pup warm and dry.

If your dog needs some pointers for walking on a leash, here are some great tips here for getting your dog familiar with going on a walk.
