Inside Levi’s Fall/Winter 2023 Collection

Levi’s said its Fall/Winter 2023 collection ignores the usual rules of style. Instead, the San Francisco-based brand promotes joy and freedom of self-expression in men’s and women’s collections that cull inspiration from decades past.

The denim pioneer looked to ’70s-era crafted surface treatments, ’80s-style prep styling, loose-fitting ’90s silhouettes and the midriff-baring low rises that dominated the aughties. All of these style cues, according to Levi’s, make this season’s collection a love song to nostalgia, customization and escapism. This eclectic fusion of influences is intended to “empower wears to blend references and mix proportions to reflect their personal style,” the brand stated.

“Capturing the increasingly blurred lines in fashion, there’s an authentic look and feel to all pieces across this collection,” said Janine Chilton-Faust, global VP of men’s design at Levi Strauss & Co. “Our aim was to take some of our favorite trends and fits from different eras and seamlessly blend them together to allow people to authentically and creatively express themselves.”

Earthy neutrals and muted brights are at the core of the F/W ’23 men’s collection. Bottoms come in a wide range of colors and fabrics, from the XX Chino Standard in corduroy and twill to the 501 ’54 in coated, leather-like black, brown and gray. In addition to the 501 Original, which marked its 150th anniversary this year, the men’s 501 Shorts are offered in multiple inseam lengths and fabrics. Other key fits include the 568 Stay Loose and the 550 ’92 Relaxed.

For tops, Levi’s focused on layering pieces like graphic tees, polos, thermal shirts and work shirts in plaid and solids. Denim shirts include a Relaxed Western Shirt and a Sawtooth Denim Shirt—the latter distinguished by jagged pocket flaps. Trucker jackets and sherpa jackets, available as half and full-zip styles, add warmth to the collection.

The women’s offering also spotlights the 501 milestone by including the 501 ’90s Short and 501 ’90s Jean. After years of the high-rise dominating collections, the Middy family of mid-rise jeans emerges, offered in classic straight leg and flared styles. Non-denim options include the Baggy Cargos and Baggy Trousers.

Graphic tees in moody colorways, Western shirts, cozy Trucker jackets and sherpa outerwear round out the women’s assortment.

“Taking inspiration from the nostalgic trends of the past and the truly remarkable Levi’s archives, the [F/W ’23] collection underscores authentic self-expression. There is no template for how people should wear Levi’s,” said Jill Guenza, global VP of women’s design at Levi Strauss & Co.
