New Jersey Family Makes Desperate Plea for Return of Beloved Boston Terrier with Special Needs
In the same way that no two animals are perfectly alike, no two pet owners are the same, either. No matter how many different ways we bond with our pets, though, the love we share with our furry friends is universally understood. We can feel each other's joy when our pets are happy and healthy, but we can also feel each other's pain when the unthinkable occurs.
That's why it can be so heartbreaking to hear about stories like Meep's. This special needs Boston Terrier went missing from her New Jersey home in the early hours of New Year's Day, and her family is in pieces. They are working tirelessly to spread the word and bring her home, and now that her story is going viral, more people than ever are keeping an eye out for her.
Needless to say, Meep's family is not going to rest until she is home safe and sound! The 1-year-old Boston Terrier was last seen in the yard of her home on Budd St. in Morristown, New Jersey. One of her owners, Summer Sheldrick, explained to NJ.com that she had been let outside to do her business just after midnight on January 1 when she became spooked by a neighbor's fireworks.
“She got loose, sprinted, and never looked back," said Sheldrick. Despite staying out all night searching for the missing dog, she wasn't found. Since then, Sheldrick and her family have done all they can think of to help bring Meep home: hanging flyers, alerting neighbors, contacting local dog rescues, and starting the TikTok account @missing.dog.meep.
There is currently a $6000 reward for Meep's safe return--no questions asked. One of the search teams that the lost pet's family hired believes that she was taken, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Meep's family at 201-400-4397. The dog is microchipped, so her identity can be confirmed.
Meep needs a daily medication to help with a luxating patella or dislocating kneecap. She also receives regular pneumonia treatments after suffering from an illness as a puppy, and she requires a special diet due to gastrointestinal issues. This is why Sheldrick is particularly concerned for the welfare of her beloved dog.
How to Help Search for a Missing Dog
If hearing about a local missing pet tugs at your heartstrings, you may feel compelled to keep an eye out for them. And you should! Keep their missing poster or picture in an easy-to-find spot, like in your phone's camera roll or pinned on a social media page, and be sure to share whatever information you can.
You never know who might spot Meep and help her reconnect with her family! My fingers are crossed that she's home soon, and that she's been taken care of in the meantime.
