New Jersey's Largest Ski Area Announces Opening Day
The wait is almost over for skiers itching to lay some turns down at Mountain Creek in Vernon, New Jersey.
The resort posted a teaser photo to Instagram with the caption, "Only 2 more sleeps until Opening Day. 😍 Mark those calendars and we’ll see you Saturday, 12/23!"
According to Mountain Creek's Mountain Report, "Opening Day will be on Saturday, 12/23 for all Pass and Card holders as well as the general public. Our Mountain Ops Team will be taking advantage of these snowmaking temps for the rest of the week, and we will share more details on hours and trail openings with you by Friday."
Their snowmaking covers 100% of the terrain on the mountain, so this is great news!
Mountain Creek is New Jersey's largest ski resort, but the location has an interesting history.
The associated waterpark (Mountain Creek Waterpark) used to be Action Park, the infamous water park responsible for the deaths of at least six individuals from 1978 to 1996.
The park was larger than life, and every rebellious kid's dream. You could and would get hurt there, because it was completely uncontrolled.
Workers and guests were intoxicated, the insurance was fake, the rides were often so unsafe they led to deadly accidents, and dangerous areas such as wavepools were often completely unmonitored.
There's a gripping documentary about Action Park called Class Action Park.
For such a tragic and terrible story, it's pretty funny.
