Kansas City Royals' New Blue Burger Earns Unsavory 'SpongeBob' Comparisons

Baseball fans across the country are packing into stadiums to watch their favorite teams for MLB Opening Day. An essential part of any sports game experience is the food you pick up at the concession stand, and this season, the Kansas City Royals are introducing a brand-new burger that matches the team's colors. But when it was unveiled on social media, some fans were likening it to a very different kind of burger.

"Happy Opening Day! Kauffman Stadium is celebrating the start of the season with the electric Back to Blue Burger," stadium food distributor Aramark wrote on X. "Royals fans can get their hands on this showstopping burger topped with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, lettuce, and buffalo aioli on a blue bun. Good luck today, KC!"

The MLB shared the photo of the Back to Blue burger on its account, and followers were quick to compare it to Pretty Patties, the multicolored burgers featured in a 2001 episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Sports fan app Stadium replied to the post with an animation from that episode, and when someone said a "logical person" would think of Pretty Patties, the app's account responded "If it wasn’t your first thought, I feel bad for you."

The burger's reveal was generally met with disgust, despite some mouth-watering ingredients between the two blue buns. Some even compared the Back to Blue offering to another infamous alternative burger from SpongeBob: the Nasty Patty.

The Back to Blue burger will be available to order at Kauffman Stadium all season long. If you wanted to experience what it'd be like to eat a Pretty Patty, now might be your chance.
