Last night's episode of American Idol featured performances from half of the top 24 contestants, as well as a very special appearance from Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson - better known at Katy Perry's parents.

And when Ryan Seacrest asked them what they thought of their daughter's judging, they definitely didn't hold back:

"She's still mouthy," her mother said, before saying that fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan "add wisdom."

She continued on to say "Well, she's a middle child and they always want the most attention."

Eventually, Perry interjected to say "I feel like it's turned out okay for them!"

It's not the first time that there's reportedly been tension between Perry and her parents, who are both Pentecostal pastors.

Her mother told Charisma News that she and Keith receive a lot of criticism from their religious community when it comes to Perry's music.

"I get a lot of negative vibes. People ask us, 'How could you have a daughter like that?'" she said. She said she felt "flattened to the wall" when Perry debuted her hit single "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008. But she also said that she still believes unconditional love and support is essential-not judgment, anger or estrangement.

Perry says that she and her parents have found a way to manage their difference.

"We all come from different places... you can have your belief system, nobody is telling you to not believe your beliefs but you can also come from a space of love," she said in an interview on Australian radio station Nova Entertainment. "That's what my family and I exercise all the time."

You can catch the next episode of American Idol tonight at 8 p.m. While we don't know if Perry's parents will be back, the odds are pretty good that there will be some kind of awkward moment featuring Katy Perry (at least if the earlier episodes of this season are any indication).
