Keep Your Clips Up #9: Best Ski Videos of the Week

It’s all looking a bit thin out there, folks. The snow, the clips—they're drying up faster than Lake Powell. In the Northern Hemisphere, the great skiing drought is upon us. But Keep Your Clips Up doesn’t quit. Someone has to keep the skiing excitement alive over the summer, right? The clips—not the spice—must flow.

Thankfully, in South America, it’s started snowing. A lot. Relying on our friends south of the equator for a little snowsports action is now on the table. But first: a pond skim update from none other than Will Wesson.

Will Wesson Turns Up the Pond Skimming Dial

Pond skims are emblematic of the spring and summer skiing experience. They take those beach vibes—sunscreen, board shorts, bodies of water—and make them literal. With a pond skim, you don’t have to pretend you’re at the beach. That towel you brought to the hill is no longer a prop when you inevitably screw up and take a dip. For Will Wesson, though, ponds aren’t just a place for our elaborate, end-of-season beachgoer cosplays. They’re canvasses for his unique brand of freeskiing. And when you push the envelope like Wesson, sometimes you get burnt or, in this case, soaked.

Powder’s on the Menu in South America

It’s firing in South America. Several ski resorts have delayed their opening dates because of too much snow. The season’s starting with a bang, and local skiers like Max Venezian are clamoring to take advantage of the fresh stuff. His recent upload is a reminder to snow-starved North American skiers that, no, the season isn’t over; it’s actually just getting started—provided you have a few frequent flier miles on hand.

Anthony Robert Keeps the Summer Skiing Dream Alive

Conversely, you could also pull an Anthony Robert and schlep yourself up the side of the nearest alpine peak where the dregs of this past winter are hanging on. It looks sun-cupped beyond belief, but La Plagne, France, still has snow. You can look at Robert’s ongoing summer skiing campaign in two ways. One: It’s nuts, and he ought to find a more seasonally appropriate hobby, like fly fishing. Two: Robert has the right idea—I’ll be skiing pavement once all the snow melts. Wherever you land on the summer skiing opinion spectrum, let Robert’s doggedness inspire you to get after it during the warmer months, even if that only involves finding the best sun-tanning spot.

Mammoth Mountain Memories With Arsenic Anywhere

When I was 12 or 13, I played So High by rapper French Montana in my friend’s mom’s car while she was driving us somewhere. I’d forgotten how explicit the song was, and as French Montana’s foul lyrics oozed from the speakers, I immediately regretted my decision, turned beet red, and scrambled to skip to the next song. So High jives better with this upload from Arsenic Anywhere, which stars a crowd of freeskiers as they shred Mammoth Mountain’s late season park. While Mammoth’s now called it quits for the season, those slushy send-off days looked unforgettable, not unlike the time when I watched my friend’s mom encounter the infamous French Montana. The latter is memorable for all the wrong reasons, though.

Who Needs Snow When You Have Plastic?

With all this talk of snow—or the lack of thereof—there remains an ol’ reliable that exists regardless of what Mother Nature is doing: the artificial stuff. Yep, I’m talking the green, plasticky turf used by skiers in snowless locales. While it doesn’t compare to its au natural cousin, you can have a pretty good time with fake snow, as proven by Theo Thoren and Alex Hackel. Just watch out for rug burn.
