Each trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon shows off a different facet of the film. If the first focused on its tone and the second on its style, this one is all about Leonardo DiCaprio.

He plays Ernest Burkhart, nephew to the powerful Bill Hale (Robert De Niro), who’s tasked with extorting money from oil-rich Native Americans. The trailer reveals something we hadn’t seen up until now, however: that Buckhart’s romance with Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone) is based on a lie.

There’s a scene in which Bill tells his nephew, “If we mix these families together, and that estate money flows in the right direction, it’ll come to us.” So Ernest was told to mix with Mollie in order to inherit some of the Osage Nation’s wealth.

That surely won’t come back to bite him during the course of the film…

It seems as though the film is already in some reviewers’ hands, with a slate near the end of the trailer featuring a quote from IndieWire calling it “the best performance of Leonardo DiCaprio’s entire career.” That’s big praise considering he's already won an Oscar.

Set in Oklahoma during the early 20th century, the film focuses on a series of villainous acts committed against the Osage Nation, including manipulation, robbery, and murder, all in pursuit of financial gain. And from the trailer, it looks like De Niro’s character just might have something to do with it.

Scorsese is back. Not that he really went away. Killers of the Flower Moon releases 18 October, and it releases into a busy killing period: watch the trailer for David Fincher’s The Killer.
