Kim Kardashian West Explains Kanye’s Affection for Trump: “He Likes His Personality”

Kim Kardashian West told Jimmy Kimmel last night that husband Kanye West still has love for President Trump, and that she herself has “nothing bad to say about the president.” She was appearing on the late-night show to promote the 15th season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but talk quickly turned to her White House dealings, which in June saw Trump commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman serving a life sentence in prison without parole for a first-time nonviolent drug offense, whose story Kardashian West was moved by when she saw it on Mic. “I knew that there was only one person in power who could make this change, who could get this woman out of prison, so I went for it,” she told Kimmel.

As for her husband, who in April proclaimed a love for Trump’s “dragon energy” via Twitter, Kardashian West was initially unable to find the words to describe his continued support of the president. “Yeah, I think he really, uh, yeah,” she said at first. She eventually continued: “He doesn’t necessarily agree with the policies. He likes [Trump’s] personality and how he made it to be president when everybody really underestimated him.” (Someone might want to explain to West how the electoral college works.) Apparently West’s reason for amping up Trump publicly is that he’s actually “not political, so he doesn’t really dig deep into what’s going on.” (Lucky him.) Kardashian West seems to feel the exact opposite, citing even more things she wants accomplished politically via her connection with Trump. “I have nothing bad to say about the president,” she said. “I’m very grateful; I’m very hopeful more good things will come out of our meeting.” And we can expect KKW lobbying on the Hill: “There’s a lot of positive things and bills we’re trying to get passed,” she added.
