A new Paul Thomas Anderson film is on the way and its shaping up to be one of the most expensive of his career. According to Variety, Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn are now attached to the untitled film. They are joined by Regina Hall and Warner Bros. is expected to produce the film.

It has long been rumored that DiCaprio and Penn will be in the film and now the news has been confirmed. The filming is set to start this month in California, where most of Anderson's projects have unfolded. Not much is known of the film, however, the movie is slated to have a contemporary setting. Much of the details are kept under wraps, so much so that Warner Bros. wanted to keep its producing role a secret. Insiders have noted that the project is nearing $100 million USD in budget.

Anderson has been known for classics like Phantom Thread and Boogie Nights. He frequents the Oscars as a regular nominee and is often categorized as a masterful filmmaker. Whilst he is a legendary director, his films have not been commercial forces. Licorice Pizza lost tens of millions of dollars, failing to recoup its $40 million USD budget. Hoping to bring some star power to his films, DiCaprio and Penn can help bring the audience.

The plot nor release date is currently revealed. Stay tuned for more information.
