Breeze Airways, a low-cost carrier, starts new service from Palm Beach International Airport to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina with fares starting at $49 one way.

To take advantage of that low cost, you must book by Oct. 28 and buy it by June 27.

“The route offers an affordable travel option connecting our community’s life science hub with North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park and provides additional convenient and enjoyable travel options for our passengers,” said PBIA' airport's Director Laura Beebe.

What is Breeze Airways?

It was founded by David Neeleman, an airline entrepreneur who also started JetBlue, Azul Brazil, WestJet and Morris Air. He currently sits on the board of Lilium, the German aerospace company that partnered with a Spain-based transportation company in hopes of bringing electric air taxis to Florida.

In February, Lilium said told FlyingMag.com that it had designated Orlando International Airport as a hub for those "advanced air mobility" (AAM) taxis. The company called it a “key regional air mobility (RAM) network hub” for Florida. They said the hub would connect regions in Florida.

What makes Breeze unique?

One way Breeze Airways is unique is that their planes are smaller, holding between 108 and 118 passengers, Neeleman told The Palm Beach Post in 2021.

“We don’t need to get as many customers as the other guys, so we can go into these niche markets and do really well,” he said.

There are three types of fare: “Nice,” which is the standard seating; “Nicer,” which offers more legroom at the front of the plane; and, on flights operated with the Airbus A220-300, "Nicest," which includes two checked bags, priority boarding, recliner seating and complimentary snacks and beverages, including alcohol.

The airline also doesn’t have change or cancellation fees.

“When I started JetBlue, it was like a customer service company that just happens to fly airplanes. This is a technology company that happens to fly airplanes,” Neeleman said. “You use Uber or you use Amazon or Lyft; you don’t want to talk to anyone. You just want to handle everything on your app, and that’s the way we’ve structured our airline.”
