Manitowoc's Pinecrest Historical Village starts its summer season Saturday. Here's what's planned.

MANITOWOC – Pinecrest Village will begin its summer season Saturday with expanded hours and a full calendar of programs and events.

Pinecrest Village and the McAllister House Welcome Center, run by the Manitowoc County Historical Society, will be open Wednesday-Saturday starting June 1 and running through Sept. 30, according to a news release.

General admission tickets are $14 for adults, $13 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for youth ages 4-17, and free for children younger than 4 years old. There is also a special Access Admission rate of $2, and general admission is always free for members of the Manitowoc County Historical Society.

Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, is composed of more than 30 historic structures from Manitowoc County that bring to life the 1850s through the early 1900s. Guests may find themselves attending class in a one-room schoolhouse or exploring historic trades at work.

Here’s what’s coming up at the museum in June:

  • World War I Encampment: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 1-2. Visit the camps of American, British, German, Russian and Ottoman nations and learn about their role in the Great War. Various activities are scheduled for the weekend including camp kitchens on the front, weaponry, the Red Cross and more.

  • Stecker Cheese Factory Walking Tour: 3-5 p.m. June 12. Take a 60-minute walking tour of the former Stecker/Hein Cheese Factory. Advanced registration is required.

  • Create-Connect: Blacksmithing Items for the Home: Noon-3 p.m. June 20. Students will have the chance to make at least two of the following decorative projects for the home: dinner triangle, candleholders, hooks or fire pit poker. Advanced registration is required.

  • Dine Fundraiser at A&W in Manitowoc: 4-8 p.m. June 20 at A&W, 4141 Harbor Town Lane. 10% of the proceeds from orders will be donated to MCHS.

  • The Longest Day: 4-7 p.m. June 21. The museum and village will be open for extended hours, free of charge — with donations appreciated for the Historical Society’s SPARK! program.

  • Heritage Maker's Market: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 29 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 30. Join historic artisans for a celebration of Wisconsin’s rich folk life traditions. Experience the sights, smells, music and craftsmanship in this juried event featuring artisans selling their wares and opportunities for hands-on creations. Discover a heritage craft, such as spinning and knitting. Explore heritage farm skills, such as wood-stove cooking and antique machinery. Watch specialty craftsmen such as blacksmiths, cobblers and broom makers create their wares.
