Masonic lodge seeks new members

HENDERSON — Founded in 1908, Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249 on Andrews Avenue has been housed in a sturdy two-story brick building for some 50 years. Now led by worshipful Master David Person, the lodge has nearly 80 members and welcomes more.

Many came out for the fish fry the lodge hosted on Feb. 3, when some 150 plates were sold. The funds from the sale go toward future community dinners, scholarships and clean-up efforts.

“We’re not a secret organization, but we have secrets,” said Person, a Henderson native, Army veteran and graduate of St. Augustine’s University, who first joined the lodge in 1997. “It’s like a family. We tell them but not the neighbors.”

Focused on hope, faith and charity, Person said character — along with a belief in a higher power — is key to becoming a member. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Call 252-492-8668 for more information.
