The Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities hosted health screenings for children recently at the McDonald’s restaurant on Jefferson Road in Athens.

The event also included an appearance by Matthew Eldridge, the author of “Betty Lou Tours America,” a children’s story about Betty Lou, a therapy dog.

Besides a reading by the book's author, staff from the organization was on board to give ear, eye and dental screenings, along with asthma care information from the charities Care Mobile bus.

The organization has for 45 years provided assistance to 80,000 families with sick children. Among the services offered are the Ronald McDonald House, the Ronald McDonald Family Room and the care mobile.

The services provide support for families while children are being treated for illnesses. For more information call 404-315-1133.
