One of Meghan Markle’s best outfits from her fashionable streak at the 2023 Invictus Games came during a spontaneous visit to a local coffee shop in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex surprised regulars at TrebeCafé, a café operated by welfare association Diakonie Düsseldorf that supports unhoused women and girls.

For the outing, Meghan looked elegant in an all-gray outfit from Stockholm-based Toteme. The ensemble included a slate-gray cable-knit sweater and a pair of matching high-rise trousers.

Diakonie Düsseldorf later shared a photo on Instagram of Meghan posing with a group of mothers and children who regularly meet at the coffee shop.

“🌟What a special moment!🌟 Duchess Meghan also visited our TrebeCafé during her stay in Düsseldorf on the occasion of the Invictus Games,” the organization wrote in the caption, translated from German. “It was a big surprise for our clients in the mother-child group when Meghan Markle suddenly appeared at the door. We announced a high-ranking guest, but the young women weren’t expecting the Duchess 😊.”

The caption went on, “The 42-year-old was quickly able to take away the women’s initial shyness. The visitors to the TrebeCafé told the Duchess openly about their former life on the street, how they got to know the TrebeCafé and how they got their lives back under control there with the support of the employees.”

Meghan even got to work during her visit. The royal apparently helped prepare lunch by “[taking] over the chopping of vegetables. … In a relaxed atmosphere, the young women now had the opportunity to ask the Duchess everything they always wanted to know about her.”

In an article that appeared in the organization’s online magazine, business area manager Tanja Buck said, “The young women and girls in the TrebeCafé have been through a lot. Their self-esteem often suffered as a result. The fact that a woman you admire takes time for you and your concern is balm for the soul.”
