Meteorologist Calling For "Powerhouse" Storms To Dump Snow From California To Maine

At the risk of jinxing it, 2024 is shaping up to be the year we skiers deserve after a slow start to the season.

According to meteorologist Chris Tomer, the coming days will bring heavy snowfall to ski resorts across North America, from the West Coast to the East Coast.

Here's Tomer.

As you probably noticed, some of the snowfall totals between January 9th and January 18th are astronomical. Oregon and Washington are set to get bombarded, with ski resorts like Stevens Pass, Mt. Baker, and Timberline slated for five-plus feet of snow.

The Northeast, too, is sitting pretty. Fifty inches at Sugarloaf? Sign me up.

The dramatic turnaround in weather conditions is surreal and oddly reminiscent of last winter, recalling the extended periods of non-stop snowfall during the 2022-2023 ski season.

I, admittedly, am waiting for the other shoe to drop. At times like this, it's hard to fully believe that our fortunes could have changed so dramatically.

A week ago, I was lamenting the fact that I'd barely skied this winter because my home resort in Montana wasn't open yet. Now, I'm wondering how I'm going to drive back to Montana safely because it's snowing so gosh dang much.

That's a good problem to have, though.

Sure, blizzards make travel and other parts of life inconvenient, but they also deliver some of life's most special moments. Ultimately, we identify as skiers for one reason: the white room, the inside of the ping-pong ball—whatever you want to call it works. Nothing compares to those feelings of weightlessness.
