Missy Elliott Is Essence's 2018 Black Women in Music Honoree

A huge round of applause is due to music icon Missy Elliott for a deserved accomplishment added to her already-impressive collection.

It was announced Thursday morning that the multi-Grammy winner will receive Essence's 2018 Black Women in Music honor, and it makes perfect sense. Elliott has spent the year leaving us in awe, from her creative VH1 Hip Hop Honors performance to her stunning new music videos.

“The artistry of Missy Elliott cuts across generations—underscored by her vast creative accomplishments and contributions to the culture,” said Vanessa De Luca, Essence's Editor-in-Chief. “So prolific is her work, she is an inspiration to women all over the world. Missy’s energetic presence is truly magnetic, and we can’t wait to celebrate her as one of the artistic masterminds of our time.”

Now in it's eighth year, Essence's Black Women in Music event recognizes artist accomplishments during Grammy week. Last year's honoree was Erykah Badu, while other previous celebrants include Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland, Andra Day, Sylvia Rhone, and Emeli Sandé.

Elliott will accept her award on Jan. 25, 2018 at the Highline Ballroom in N.Y.C.

Congratulations, Missy!
