What the New Moon in Libra Means for You

The new Moon in Libra on September 25, 2022, is an opportunity to define your relational space. It's a time to look at all of your relationships and decide if they are serving you or if they need some adjustment. However, before looking at any of your partnerships, it's important to cultivate balance within your own energy.

What Libra energy means

Each astrological energy is an evolution of the one before. Virgo season taught us to accept our imperfections and understand the value of our self-worth. Libra season builds upon these energies and seeks to extend them to our partnerships. Once we can accept our own imperfections, we are in a place to accept other people's imperfections. Also, when we know our true self-worth, we can better stand our ground in conflict and find a peaceful resolution that preserves our integrity.

This season is ultimately an opportunity to look at the relationships in your life and understand them on a new level. It’s a time to ask which ones are serving you and which ones are limiting you. Relationships can be complicated and messy, but they also can bring you into an energetic vibration that you could not get to alone. As you merge frequencies with another person, you have the opportunity to elevate your consciousness. Your mind opens in new ways, allowing you to see the world more clearly and peacefully.

Not all relationships are created equally, however. Libra teaches us to look at and adjust our expectations of the people in our lives. This season is the time to understand how different partnerships serve you and ask yourself if you expect too much or too little from them. When we have the correct set of expectations aligned with a relationship, neither party feels disappointed or guilty. Everyone is on the same page about how they are showing up for each other and what can be expected from them in given situations.

As you move through this season, think about the people in your life. Ask yourself what is fair to expect from them. See how some people are capable of showing up only in certain ways for you. You may want more from them, but for a myriad of reasons, they may not be able to give you what you’re asking. Other people may want to show up for you in a larger capacity than you need or want. It’s important to recognize these relationships as well, and set boundaries so that you don’t end up feeling guilty or obligated to receive the gifts they may be offering.

Then there are your most intimate relationships, which have the ability to become mirrors in your life. They can reflect your strengths and weaknesses and help you grow into different versions of yourself. These partnerships need an open- mindedness and a willingness on your part to admit when you may be wrong.

Libra is the merging of opposites. This energy is represented by the scales and signifies a point of balance that can be reached when two halves become whole. In essence, this energy reminds us that two opposing forces can exist simultaneously together. Neither is right or wrong. Rather, both are necessary energies needed to ultimately create balance. When we apply this energy to relationships, we see how the best partners are the ones who challenge us. They are the ones who bring us opposing viewpoints and ask us to think beyond our own set of perceptions, biases, and assumptions. To be in a healthy relationship of any kind requires a certain flexibility.

Healthy relationships have the potential to elevate our consciousness, and this elevation is achieved through open, honest, and sometimes even awkward communication. It’s also achieved by seeing our flaws and being willing to do the work to heal ourselves. Through healing and accepting ourselves, we can adjust our conscious minds to include what others may see. Libra brings us the tools to center our energy and become open to those around us.

What to expect during the new Moon in Libra

This new Moon tends to bring up many emotions and thoughts. You may find that issues in your relationships naturally come up at this time. As an air sign, Libra stirs the mental realm, and you may find yourself overthinking or feeling overwhelmed. It's important to take the time to ground your energy and settle your mind before contemplating your relationships. Handle any issues, especially those involving drama, after you feel settled in your own energy.

When you are ready to give people and partnerships your attention, first ask yourself if they need balance. Are both parties giving equally? Does anyone feel they are contributing too much? Also, look to see if there is codependency or drama. Do you need this person to need you? Or is there manipulation from either party? If a relationship feels like a roller-coaster ride, it may not be sustainable.

It's also important to remember that your shadows and triggers often arise in relationships. Our shadows are a part of the subconscious. They hold unresolved and unprocessed emotions. They are often formed in childhood through interactions with our caregivers. We can hold many repressed emotions and even memories in our shadows. When we are in partnerships, those emotions and memories tend to pop up when we least expect it and create issues precisely so we can resolve them.

If you find yourself in similar situations with different people during the new Moon in Libra, consider it a clue that your subconscious shadows are creating those relationships so you have the opportunity to resolve the issues once and for all. Our shadows want to heal and become integrated into the conscious mind. The only way to do this is to accept them, understand them, and attempt to resolve the underlying emotions.

Our triggers are perhaps the largest clue that our shadows are at work. If you find yourself becoming highly emotional in response to your partner's actions, you may be uncovering a shadow if the emotion doesn't quite match the situation. It will look like an overreaction, but really, it is your shadow asking for attention. If you find this happening in relationships, give yourself some attention, journal, and get to the root of the emotions.

How to navigate the energy of the new Moon

On the new Moon, the veil between the subconscious and conscious is lowered, making your shadows more apparent. You may find yourself more easily triggered at this time. You might also find the intensity of this new Moon in Libra causing you to project your feelings onto others. You may feel intense anger or sadness. Instead of dealing with your emotions, you might accuse your partner of feeling this way. You see your emotions in another, even if they are not actually occurring for the other person.

Pay attention to your triggers. Ask yourself how you want to respond to them and what relationship you want with your shadows. The more you understand and accept them, the less power they have over you and your relationships.

On the new Moon in Libra, it's most beneficial to create intentions around your inner harmony and how to maintain it. You can also create visions of relationships and partnerships that support your path and help keep you balanced. Ask the Universe to bring you people and projects that meet you where you are right now. What would these perfect matches look like? Furthermore, how can they help you grow into your greatest potential?

Be open to receiving what you need in the upcoming months, even if it's unexpected. Envision the life you want to live, then ask the Universe to bring the right people and partners to help make it all happen.

It's also important to look at your relationship with your intentions this new Moon. Do you have a healthy partnership with them? If you do not feel your intentions are possible, then they will never occur. You may want them in your life, but if you do not believe in them and yourself, they will not manifest. Also, if they are just something you do on the new Moon, they will not manifest. You need to hold space for them in your life and hold the vision of them occurring. It is not enough to just write them down. You need to embody them each day moving forward and know they are already occurring.

Clear your mind and envision your future life. This can be one month, six months, one year, or five years into the future. Let this scene play out like a movie, with you as the observer. In this scene, all that you wish to call in is already yours. Imagine feeling a sense of peace with your life. See a day play out in front of you. Where are you? Who are you with? What does the space look like? How do you feel? Be as detailed as possible here. See and feel every detail of this vision. Do not worry about how you will get there or the list of to-dos needed to accomplish your goals. Just focus on the feeling of already living your dream. Know with every ounce of your being that it is already true--it already exists for you. Also, know that your intuition, not your logic, will lead you to this dream.

Spend time this new Moon cultivating a feeling of peace and calm within yourself. Surround yourself with beauty, connect with nature, and find ways to settle your energy. Use yoga and meditation practices to help you find your sense of peace.

Pay close attention to your breath. This is the first place to begin calming your nervous system, mind, and body. If you feel unbalanced at any time, close your eyes for a few moments and focus on your breath to restore your inner calm. Make every effort to keep it smooth, balanced, and free. The more at peace you are within yourself, the more deeply you will harness the gifts of this new Moon.
