New Motor En Route To Shuttered Colorado Chairlift

Officials at Steamboat, CO, have a positive announcement following the breakdown of their chairlift, the Pony Express.

Yesterday, a Facebook post from the resort read, "Happy to share that a motor is enroute. Our teams disassembled and removed the 8,000lb. existing Pony Express motor over the weekend and transported it down to our Slope Maintenance facility yesterday on a vehicle trailer retrofitted with skis that was assembled in-house."

"The new motor should be here in the next few days. Once it arrives, it will take at least a few days to complete installation and necessary testing."

Pony Express services advanced terrain at the resort, including multiple glades and black diamond trails.

Funnily enough, some skiers of the resort actually requested that the lift repair be delayed because they have enjoyed the uphill so much. One commenter wrote below the post, "Can you please delay the repair by about a week? We’re really enjoying the hike to terrain that a broken lift provides. This has actually been a gift for those that are willing to hike for an extra turn. We are making the best of an 'unfortunate' situation."

It reminds me of the time this season before Palisades Tahoe opened Siberia and Headwall. People reverse traversed across to access CII Bowl and all of the terrain you could not simply ride up to.

The results? Uncrowded slopes and exploration for those willing to put in a little man-power to get there. It was a cherished time of the year!

Officials at Steamboat promise to keep everyone updated as the situation progresses.
